Cloudburst

Aloft boiled the stew of clouds,
The cauldron of cinder and ash,
Circle and tumble about the pinnacles,
Strew the skies with tattered shrouds
Until the lightning spears clash,
Bright phosphorous silver tentacles.

Above teemed the womb of mist,
Crucible of ether and violence,
Helter and skelter around the moonglow,
Spun the stars with hydrogen fist,
Battered the waters to silence,
Ghosts rolled off the surface below.

On high raged the column of rages,
Burned sockets of black-eyed sleep,
Enfolded in murderous cultures,
Oh the wages of sin, oh the wages
Are rained to the valley so deep
As the clouds descend like vultures.
