Closer To Jesus
Listen to poem:
Closer to Jesus
David J Walker
I was wondering
if you were going
To wear your house to
Church today
And pray by chance to
Park your car in
One of the pews
Where parishioners pay their dues
For the privilege of sitting
Closer to Jesus
I was wondering if
Sunday dinner was better
Prepared by the white chefs
Of the country club
With views from picture windows
Overlooking the golf course
Where Jews were not allowed
Of course
Are they now?
I wonder
How much of a failure
I must seem
compared to the
Dream of measured wealth
In the near-perfect stealth
Of make and taking and
talking of fortunes
table to table
