Class Should Be

Class should be stimulating and fun a place where students get things done not soporific just -- terrific! Class should let students explore the universe of knowledge more ... and more ... and more Not sit and be lectured to By some self-appointed guru

Agreed Gershon, I had one or two classes of your expression and they were the ones which made a lifelong impact. Great thoughts !!

You're so right, Mike. Even one class out of 30+ in high school or college can make ALL the difference. (I know it did for me too, in h.s.) Thanks for weighing in on this one. ~ gw

When I was at school, anything I wanted to know meant a trip to the library and find answers in a book. Now all they do is click a mouse listen to robots and print the answers. Not the dame

Agreed. THE STUDENTS themselves are actually the robots...Ever read "The Martian Chronicles," by Ray Bradbury? At the end of the book, after earthlings had inhabited Mars, one of the earthlings looks at his reflection in a pool of water and tells his son, who had been seeking 'real, alien-type' Martians: There, son, in the water -- THERE ARE THE MARTIANS ! gw

Gershon, I wish you were in charge of our schools. Schooling has gotten in the way of education. We need to teach students how to think, not tips to memorize!

Ah, my sentiments exactly...And I love that line: "Schooling has gotten in the way of education." Reminds of a famous Mark Twain line (which I just made up, since everything else under the sun is attributed to him rightly or wrongly): 'Never judge a school by its students.' Thank you for your encouragement and support, Lyric! ~ gw
