Christmas Symbols
CHRISTMAS SYMBOLS
When I look at the star shining down from afar,
When I see all the gifts in the way,
When I look at the snow, the wreaths, the mistletoe,
It reminds me of the first Christmas day.
When I hear all the choirs, my heart it inspires;
When I look at the green Christmas tree,
It reminds me once more of that faraway shore
Where one day Jesus came to for me.
When I see manger scenes of that night so serene
And the Baby that in it was laid,
I’m reminded again of the price of my sin
That He came and He so freely paid.
The poinsettias so red tell me that Jesus bled,
And the shepherds I see on the hill
Tell me He loves His sheep with a love pure and deep,
And it sent Him to God’s will fulfill.
Yes, the candy is sweet and the cards they do greet,
And the food that is served tastes so good,
But when I open the gifts, my mind starts to drift
To the gift of His pure, sinless blood.
So you see, Christmas time brings a lot to my mind,
And I hope midst the tinsel and toys
That I’ll never forget the dear Savior I met
Who’s the reason for all of its joy.
For the symbols are nice, and they’re all worth their price,
And they all seem to point to God’s gift,
But if we keep our eyes on the commercialized
It is easy for our thoughts to drift.
For it’s not reindeer paws nor old Santa Claus
That in pictures or stories appear;
It is Jesus Christ’s birth to this old, sinful earth
That is really why Christmas is here.
So be careful, my friend, as you bring Christmas in
With the symbols all laid in their place
That you always remember, not just in December
This dear gift of God’s love and His grace!
