Christmas Eve

Every child’s asleep with dreams of sweets and toys All save for a little girl and boy. Staying up late waiting for Santa Claus, Hoping to hear the thuds of reindeer paws. He’s got a net trap over the chimney, She’s got a camera hidden in the tree. Bells hang above a plate of milk and cookies With a carrot on the side as a reindeer treat. Working together all night long; A brother-sister family bond. The clock strikes midnight, tic tock tic - When will he arrive, that old Saint Nick? Mama brings cups of cocoa and a comfy throw, Down and out the children go, Asleep in the warmth of the crackling fire Under the glow of the tree and it’s beautiful Star. The kids wake in the morning to find presents under the tree, Their stockings filled and the camera missing. The cookies and milk are gone and the carrot’s snapped. How did Santa Claus get past all their traps? Mama says it’s hard to catch Santa and his reindeer steeds, They’ll have to try again next Christmas Eve.
