Christmas Day
Christmas Day Comes
Christmas day comes just once every year
long and anxiously awaited
but always anticipated
then suddenly, surprised it's here.
Preparations complete and done
as the arrivals with presents come ,
the careful wrappings on display,
now torn and thrown away.
Displayed gifts now adorn the space
where brightly decorated packages were placed
laid so carefully in the biggest sea
of bountiful gifts beneath the tree.
Tired children, no longer awake to play
close their eyes, content and satisfied this day
dreaming of the once perceived
desired gifts happily received.
Sleepy, stuffed adults ease back and rest
filled on drinks, snacks and buying out the stores best
every asked for toy to fulfill the scenes
of a child's hopes and dreams.
Too quickly now, the day is done
with Christmas shows and carols sung,
with turkey, ham, lasagna dinners weighed
tucked and sadly put away.
A get together full of memories to cherish
as gifts of past Christmasses perished
but the memories remain
as Christmas day comes again.
