Christmas Cardinal
Single cardinal in the tree,
Barren branches so I can see
His bright color of crimson red,
As I stare at him, he turns his head.
I wonder why he is alone,
No mate with him, just on his own,
No other bird can be found,
In tree, in bush or on the ground.
He continues to linger on the limb,
This solitary cardinal looking so prim,
Neither eating or singing he just stares at me,
Is he a sign or a symbol for me?
Ten minutes have passed and still he stays,
No other bird has visited not even a Jay,
I begin to wonder if he is here for me,
Maybe it's Dad I want to believe.
My Christmas Cardinal remains five minutes more,
But it seems it's me he only has eyes for,
So I am going to believe that Dad visited me today,
I wish my Christmas Cardinal came everyday.
