Chorale State Competition
All of us scurry on stage
Heels and teeth chattering
The judge fills out her page
Our dresses are less than flattering
Our moderator waves, we all engage
Unfocused thoughts start scattering
We pray our voices have come of age
As we perform the songs we'd been mastering
With a wave of a hand, the beauty begins
The piano starts off softly
We imagine all of our past wins
And hope none of us go off-key
The music moves with our hearts within
The last note ends promptly
We reflect on what the performance has been
And attempt to walk off calmly
We rush outside and wait on the news
Anxious to know if we succeeded
We acquire the post-performance blues
Then our movement is impeded
Our teacher looked disheartened, as if we all were destined to lose
But as a smile breaks, she says the judges' expectations were exceeded
We jump for joy and giggle, and gave hugs no one could refuse
Off to Disney we go, with the win we desperately needed
