China Squash Open 2015

The Bund China Squash Open 2015

The Bund China Squash Open 2015 was recently played out in Shanghai…
It was the first squash major as a season’s opener after a summer break…

The unseeded hopefuls have battled through 2 rounds of qualifying battles…
Yesterday was the 3rd day of competition that served up some incredible surprises…

It was actually the 1st round for all players in the main draw of the championship....
Unseeded qualifiers are now into the main draw, at best hoping to scalp some seeds…

Qualifier Max Lee of Hong Kong deservedly started his hard earned slot in the main draw…
Against the almighty and the most daunting opponent in Mohd El Shorbagy from Egypt..

The latter is the undisputed world squash number 1 who is way ahead of a chasing pack…
That included the former world number 1 Ramy Ashour, world renowned for his sublime skills..

And the infallible 36 years old Nick Matthews and the fast recovering giant, James Willstrop..
Also France’s favorite son Gregory Gaultier , a top notched contender who was once number 1..

With such illustrious players ominously slotted in the main draw for company..
A qualifier in reality has very little chances of making significant headway with seeds so many..

On paper Max Lee did not have a ghost of a chance going up against the reigning world number 1..

The best the avid squash fans hope to see was that Max Lee might give Shorbagy a tough fight…
Nobody in the watching spectators would think Max Lee will be a winner that night....

But Max Lee stood toe to toe against his towering opponent, played and rallied resolutely on..
As he outfought and outplayed Shorbagy in a dogged 5 set fight, squash fans gasped in awe..

When the titanic battle was finally over, out stepped Max Lee emerging as a giant killer…
A lowly qualifier has just toppled and humbled the world number 1…

What an ignominious and bitter defeat for the mercurial Shorbagy to swallow…
As world number 1, he has just been sent packing out of a squash major event…

O what a mighty upset win this has been, one do not get to often see…
A world number 1 being sent out packing in the 1st round, by a qualifier low in ranking…

What an incredible upset, what an incredible win, nobody saw that coming…
All in the squash world, stand up and applaud Max Lee, what a win..!

For the record, Shorbagy’s loss here was just a temporaray blip…
and Max Lee failed to carry over this win the next day….

Sometimes one needs to reign for one to succeed in other areas to bring their self-esteem up great for Max Lee to have a one day reign. Enjoyed the read, Keng, Hugs Eve

No, but I do love to watch different Olympic sports. Professionals have such a way of allegro movements like a ballerina floating around . I love how easy they make every movement look.
