China
"China"
Her name was China.
she wasn’t fragile
in that way, like
bones break.
when she was born
her home was
a small island
the world, her entire world.
it was fought over
you know, like
warring parents
bargain over
a child’s bones.
Her name was China.
yet, she wasn't China.
she wasn’t fragile
she was an island
all unto herself.
she wasn’t China.
when the others
arrived, another world
opened up
to her.
who could blame her
for leaving.
What was left
exploded.
Destroyed.
It was nuclear.
Then,
new territories
written.
new maps drawn.
she changed her name.
