Cherry Stones - Triolet

As sunlight slides behind the hill
Mum sets the last stone in cherry
Yet a fortnight for Christmas still
As sunlight slides behind the hill
Painted marl makes children merry
When December dew nips our sill
As sunlight slides behind the hill
Mum sets the last stone in cherry

Just lovely, Trina. What a wonderful sense of anticipation of celebration and the coming of December - "when December dew nips our sill." I love your sense of family. I also love the word "fortnight!" Congratulations! Blessings to you.

Thanks for trying a triolet in my contest. This has such a happy tone. I never heard of setting stone in cherry or painted marl, so I looked the words up and they kind of made sense to me. Maybe a tradition in your part of the world? Congrats. I really enjoyed your entry

Thanks, Andrea. When I was growing up, my mum would get marl and paint it around Christmas time. She would pack the painted stones around the Snow on the Mountain tree in our garden. It blooms in December.
