Checking Out

Standing in that line several people ahead of me
I wanted to wine but who would even hear my plea
I wasn't really in a hurry I just didn't want to wait
So why was I to worry on this particular date

Soon I decided to just relax as God leads the way
"What do you mean there's tax?" I heard an old man say
And with that being said the young man who was just behind
Said here take this, go ahead, honestly sir I don't mind

With a smile of gratitude on his face he began to walk away
And as not to be rude but in grace he slowly turned to say
"To you this gesture may seem small" said in such a quite little voice
"But it was the beautiful grace that I saw that really made me rejoice"

Well that had a nice little touch but I'm still standing in line
Oh for sure he did touch but checking out would be just fine
So finally I get to pay and soon I'm walking out that door
But what I saw on my way completely shot through my core

For there laying on the cold wet ground the young man by his side
Everyone screaming call 911 but it seemed he had already died
For just a few minutes before he was right there in front of me
He was just going to the store as a family will never again see

As the ambulance slowly drove away and some people still standing around
All I could do was wonder and pray if this gentleman was Heaven bound
And then I heard the last words he said and my answer was quickly known
As those words rang through my head of knowing Jesus in Word and tone
