Chasing the Dream
Striving to obtain all lofty goals set,
while dwelling not upon those never met.
Refusing to quit and staying the course,
getting up from the dust and back on the horse.
No matter how discouraging things may seem,
these all are a part of chasing the dream.
Savoring the thrill of victory sweet,
while knowing first-hand the pain of defeat.
Fearing not ever to enter the fray,
accepting that your best may not win the day.
It matters not when curds spoil the cream,
these all are a part of chasing the dream.
To those that may perceive this poem as somewhat clichéd, I point out that it was composed for my daughter when she was thirteen years old and was experiencing some disappointing times in equestrian competitions.
