Chasing Rainbows

Dangerous, violent, aggressive the storm; Stuck out in the cold, seeking out somewhere warm. I've drug my two feet through the rock and the mud; Thought it couldn't get worse, then it started to flood. Way of in the distance, as i started to drown, I fought to tread water- for a light had been found! I swam and i swam to chase after that beam; But each time it got closer, it kept drifting it seemed. The sharks now below me, but i can't give up now; I cannot let go of this hope that I've found. From a light to a rainbow it then had transformed; A luminous beauty amidst this great storm I imagined the place where the colors did touch; And i yearned for the warmth it may bring oh so much. I finally get closer, though my body is weak; I am now unafraid of the hazards around me. I outstretch my hand, for it's now within grasp; I've finally found safety- protection at last! But now that i touch it, the colors they fade; A mirage of safe haven now swindles away. I flip to my back to just float, and I gaze; Lock eyes with the clouds as that dream dissipates. My soul becomes heavy, and I start to sink; I thought of the rainbow which now is extinct. The water engulfs me, my lungs now collapse; I'm done chasing rainbows, and fate takes me at last.
