Chaos At the Capitol

We watched in horror, fury, shock
As everything we knew
Was ravaged right before our eyes
And all was left askew.

Sedition! Insurrection! Coup!
Those words were tossed about
As Trump-incited chaos
Left democracy in doubt.

To see the U.S. Capitol
Invaded, stormed, defiled,
With law enforcement lacking,
Finally got some people riled.

But what did Trump supporters think
Would happen? After all,
He’d stood before his crowds and, oh,
They’d heard his clarion call.

Though Congress finished up the count,
The rule of law reclaimed,
I wonder if, at last, some members
Finally felt ashamed.

excellent poem. Their testimony was so so heart wrenching. Some times I wonder what country I'm in these days. Thank you for penning this. Nancy

So devilish! Capitol police orchestrated by Trump not to respond (unless insurgents were of any colour except white) and to reject military/National Guard/other police force assistance! Trump should have immediately been arrested and tried for Treason! Aloha! Rico

I wasn't surprised at all by yesterday at the capitol; I instinctively knew it was bound to happen, given Trump's constant incendiary rhetoric and lies. The attack on the nation's capitol will stick in my mind until I die, like the other two: Kennedy's assassination, 9/11, and yesterday's attack on the capitol, which could have been much worse. What the madman plans to do with the time remaining in his presidency is anyone's guess. I only hope his "clones" do not repeat it Jan. 20! / M

A sad day for democracy Ilene, as someone said it was like a scene from a banana Republic not a democratic Republic. Tom
