Notes About The Poem

From a child to my very adult stages, I loved seeing the story of Cinderella unfold, and the Hammerstein’s musical version of Cinderella has long since been my most favorite Cinderella experience. My favorite scene of all being the night of the Ball when both hearts in love are revealed to each other and to everyone gazing. It is this moment of enthrallment that every human being alive should be blessed to feel.

Chandelier Ball

CHANDELIER BALL

Take me to the marbled hall,
on a date of the magnificent Chandelier Ball

My gown will flow from the grandeur stair,
With hand in palm you'll take me there.

At the Chandelier Ball,
ladies are sleek and gents are tall.

Eyes behold with fascinating gleam,
marveling at the Cindarellic scene,

As we pomp and circumstance,
at the rhythm of the dance,

All the ladies are taken with your charm,
of you closely holding me in your arms.

But we will dance the night away,
til the morning dawn of day.

Though they are patient to cut in,
we'll dance once more and then again.

This dance is for you, en symphony,
I am yours and darling you belong to me.

and when upon my bed tonight,
I’ll think of us like birds in flight.

May our enraptured kiss forever be recalled
On the date of the magnificent Chandelier ball.

A lovely tribute to the days when ladies and gentlemen "dressed" and had balls, being patient is an old fashioned courtesy not seen so much today. Thank you for the reminder, Lovie.
