Chain of Life

“It sucks being you”
I’ve been hearing it said
I just let those words
Rattle round in my head
“It sucks being me”?
Au contraire Mon Ami
There’s nobody else
I’d rather be
“But you’ve cancer” they say
“and it is such a bad curse”
But I tell you friends
There is much that is worse
I could be lacking
The loves of my life
My daughter, grand daughter
And my loving wife
I could be left
With no family support
No friends at my side
Just the doctor’s report
But that’s not the case
No, that doesn’t ring true
They’re wrong when they say
It sucks being you
No, it’s great being me
Cancer can’t take away
The loves of my life
The sunrise each day
The thoughts and the prayers
That give me the strength
For in my chain of life
They’re my greatest links
