Cement Shoes

These cement shoes…
They hold me down.
I’ve got the blues.
It’s not profound.
I do not care.
I’ve paid my dues.
But still, I wear
These cement shoes.

A ball and chain
Holding me back.
I place the blame
On all I lack.
I’m unaware
Of any pain
But still I wear
A ball and chain.

	It seems a strange philosophy.
	Ignoring all my history.
What won’t cut deep must leave a bruise.
And you can’t run in cement shoes.

I’ve stainless steel
Around each wrist.
Yes, life is real
But hit or miss.
And I just stare.
I cannot feel
Because I wear
This stainless steel.

My cement shoes.
A mortal sin.
I cannot lose
But I can’t win.
It’s so unfair
But that’s old news
For still, I wear
These cement shoes.
