Catch a Star
Today we'll try to say in rhymes
Some things unsaid in other times.
For, time has passed and now we see
A shining light where used to be
A shadowed, darkened silhouette
Of dreams unfilled and life unmet.
The shining light is what you are,
For, in your sights, you placed a star.
And springtime suns and winter chills
Saw lofty mountains change to hills.
The childhood dreams, through honest schemes,
All came together and, it seems,
Today, with pride, we see you stand --
The star you sought -- held in your hand.
Author's Note:
This one started it all. My daughter, Joan had spent the previous 5 years obtaining 2 degrees at University of Texas. During our talking one night in our den she dared me to write a poem. I placed this on her as she lay sleeping on the couch. the same night.
