Cast a Long Shadow
The receding light of the diffuse past,
falling on the slices of the broken dreams
leaves the morose life under the blue beams
of the time present, the shadow of gloom it casts.
Living the past chasing mirage of shadow
of construed delight or introspect contrition,
makes ground for growing roots of abstraction
that can’t hold long the wooden life turned hollow.
The flicker of the candle of gleaming hope
from behind the lifting mist of future opaque,
makes enticing designs of shadow in the wake,
as the time’s show goes on in life’s kaleidoscope.
My mind meanders in terrain of the present,
between contours of the unseen and the seen
as the cascading stream in life’s landscape scene,
I enjoy the symphony of its flow to my heart’s content.
Down the hued horizon dusk slides slow,
I stand where the stream meets the serene sea.
On the placid plateau of the past spread behind me
I face the yonder sinking sun, see it cast a long shadow.
