Carpet Cleaning

What should we leave behind?
Debts? Memories sublime?
Undeserved blessings passed on to us?
A fare for free passage on a Greyhound bus?

Whatever we share during a life;
A bit of our wisdom, comfort in strife,
A plot of good soil to nourish a seed.
Let goodness crown our legacy.

Lay unearned treasures for those to come,
that they may rejoice with the fortunate some.
The past is greatly honored, let the future be so.
Dust off the red carpet before you go.
