Careful What You Wish

Go on make a wish, for mine came true
A sure thing, appeared out of the blue
Make it a good one, could be your last
          Everything eventually, comes to pass

Wish for happiness, wish for release
Make sure it’s something, within reach
You won’t be able, to resurrect the dead
That would be a miracle, all being said

Go on make a wish, do it straight away
For who grants, these requests anyway
Toss some coins, into a fountain or well
Cross your fingers, to enhance the spell

Touch wood, in case things turn to stone
Break a chickens clavicle, old wishbone
Seek shooting stars, find pie in the sky
I wished my life away, time duly obliged.

Love this David Re-read it over again and discovered a new depth and complexity. Wished my life away and time obliged Only then to wish for that time back

You’ve certainly got meaning from this one Christopher, and I’m delighted if you get some inspiration, means I’ve done my job, now there’s something to be grateful for

So simple David Yet and but so inherently truthful Food , Water , Air and Love Everything else even a roof or house is a bonus Everything technically we need to be happy Is here within our grasp Except gratitude

And that indeed is the crux of this poem Christopher, Those damn wishes are hopes and dreams, we only have the here and now, and will never get it back, life ain’t perfect, who’s to say tomorrow will be any better, but it’s hard when on a downer, all we wish for is something better, life eh, cheers David

Thanks Gary it’s our greatest gift and enemy, I’m convinced it speeds up as we get older, when a kid it seemed endless days went on forever, enough said or I’ll be getting myself started, cheers David Reply

Wise words Darlene, we have a saying in Ireland, ‘If it’s for you it won’t pass you’, but I think it’s human nature for people to wish, but they shouldn’t hold their breath too long, or life will pass them by, hope your keeping well, cheers David

And that’s the message here Jan, you get it exactly, get on with life for it will pass you by if waiting for something to happen, I’m delighted you have found happiness, as have I, but sometimes life can drag me down in a spiral, that’s where poetry helps me climb back out, cheers David
