Can'T Can'T, Can-Can

Can' can't can-can
Mum won't let me, 'cos it's rude,
She has always been a prude.
Dad would faint if he could see,
A little bit too much of me.
High-kicking in a bawdy show.
Men cat calling to dancers
Go girls, go,
And go they did, at a frantic pace,
Holding up their dresses,
To hide their face
Screeching and screaming as they danced,
Putting the men in a trance,
Except for a few
Who passed out when they saw the view.
Faces started turning red,
As the girls threw their dresses over their heads,
Mum was shocked, horrified,
Grabbing me and throwing me outside,
The door of this despicable place,
Saying the girls are a disgrace to the human race.
And I CAN'T CAN'T go,
To join a bawdy CAN-CAN show...

This rhyme is so much fun! "Mum won't let me, 'cos it's rude, She has always been a prude." I love the whole thing but especially that part.

Thank you, Caren. I was sitting with a black piece of paper in front of me thinking I can't do this anymore and this poem wrote itself...

I've seen the can can in Paris. I loved the music and techniques, yet if you're looking to be serious, stay away.

My husband took me to Paris for my 70th birthday (14 years ago ) We did not see the can can. I was very surprised when we passed the Moulin Rouge it looked very much in need of decorating... I love Paris, markets, ambience, people, fashion etc. I think your comment was spot on, Thank you Victor.

(chuckling loudly) Oh, Shirley, did you really do this? I recalled seeing the can-can dangers in Paris...not really up close, you understand. Loved your poem!!!
