Candleburn

my candle was lit
right after birth
burning aflame
along with my name

dancing lights
swaying left to right
do good it shines bright
flickers when I lose sight

intensely it burns
when events took a turn
life blows are threats
to extinguish my breath

as it grows shorter
in my daily struggles
lessons are learnt
as my candle burnt

to put out the glow
is not for me to know
it might be any time now
or maybe tomorrow

though there’s still spark
I can see in the dark
one day it will lose flare
as I gasp my last air

while it smolders
its glimmer I must offer
to help guide the way
of those who are astray
