Button Gone Astray

Button Gone Astray

I read a poem the other day
About a button gone astray
Another poet said her thing
Was always losing one earring
Before I put my pen away
I had to join into the fray

I’ve never worn an earring
I never felt the need
And have I sewn on buttons
Hundreds – yes indeed
So when I get an extra
It goes straight into a jar
But when I need that button
It takes too long by far
To find that matching button
From the time that I begin
And so just like the rest of you
I use a Safety Pin
