Notes About The Poem

Written 20th September, 2026 entered in September Challenge: Tritina Poetry Contest sponsored by Andrea Dietrich

Bush Stone-curlew

At dusk, I hear that ghostly call
beneath the pale face of the moon;
I wander, wishing you were not gone.

A curlew’s cry says you’re not gone;
yet I am summoned by that call,
which spills its silver sorrow on the moon.

All reflects the mournful moon;
I wait for footsteps, but you’re gone;
the curlew keeps its vigil, call by call.

Its call beneath the moon names what is gone.

Oh my, what an aching and melancholic tritina this is! I've never written in this form before but it looks very intriguing ~ and tricky with those words appearing at the end of the lines. I jus say, you've woven this in a poetically immaculate and emotive manner, my dear Alison.. it speaks to one's soul.. the sense of loss and longing that you've portrayed here sigh, "Its call beneath the moon names what is gone." Very soul-stirring! Beautiful as always ~ best of luck in the contest, 🌙🌊🍂💫✨
