Bury Me

Bury Me
By Laura Dee
November 13, 2014

It comes and goes, But it's gone tonight
So won't you stop and reimagine me?
I'm giving in cause it feels so right
It comes in waves that we'll never see

The tide is low when we say goodbye
So lie with me and see me as I'll never be
The man behind these eyes will surely die
Spending nights inside shadows of a burning tree

If I numb my hands enough for you
Will you meet me at the morning sun?
If my burn these eyes from shades of blue
Will you still see me as your only one?

Don't close your eyes; I'm shooting blanks
You may be scared but I am too
Maybe I'll find just where you rank
We'll burn into the smiles we drew

Today the sands take back the earth
We'll start anew; just me and you
Just one more breath until we're through
This ecstasy will make us new

Happiness, I have been unfaithful
Our loneliness has fueled this fire
Still it feels like my heart is full
Skin of wool shredded by desire

I'm begging you don't give up on me
You remind me of the future
The one I couldn't see through the trees
You make me remember the days when I was pure

So maybe it's not the story of meant-to-be's
But it's the only one I can feel with these hands
My fingers are cold but they're wild and free
No more disease on which we used to stand

It comes and goes just like anything
It comes in waves about to carry me
Away from here and the suffering
From everything I'll never be
