Burning Building

BURNING BUILDING

The building was on fire! And people trapped inside!
I had to go and rescue! I could not here abide!
But there I had two choices for how to help them out,
To save them from disaster, and there was little doubt.
I could get lots of water and make myself real wet,
And run in quickly looking, but not last long, I bet.
Or I could get equipment like firemen all put on:
A suit that's well protected is what I need to don.
Make sure while I was in there that I had lots of air,
So I could be effective while I was walking there.
There is a potent message this story tries to tell:
That souls out there are dying and who will go to hell.
I have a Great Commission to rescue them from there,
So do I douse with water and act like I might care?
Or act in full commitment, with all equipment and
Go in that burning building and rescue who I can?
If I just live for pleasure, don't care how it appears
To those I'm sent to rescue, will they my calling hear?
My calling as a fireman is not a liberty
To live as I might want to, in sin or pleasure free.
For doing that will liken me to the man who there
Just doused himself with water and acted like he cared.
Just like a fireman's careful, protecting himself well,
My life must be that careful to rescue souls from hell.
I must make full commitment, to try my best to be
The example for my Savior who died to set me free.
