Burning Bridges

Burning Bridges
By Lola Battle

While I’ve been burning bridges
You have filtered out the noise
I lost myself in wanderlust
You forged ahead with poise

When I was screaming silence
You stayed faithful to the course
Cause sometimes I brought thunder
While you prepared for discourse

There’s times to walk away
When I don’t know what to say
Cause I was burning bridges
They laid ahead; I lost my way

So who am I to tell you that I think you have to fall
Its chaos that I sought but it was wisdom that I found
Now I am building bridges that can travel up and down
Knowing now, the sober ones are truly found

A time to stay and a time to stray
A time for discourse and a time for disaray
Still I flash an unfiltered smile at night
Knowing when the demons stray, i’ll always be ok
