Burlap and Roses

Burlap and roses
Tender and tough
This is how I see you
Beauty on the inside
The outside showing rough

You ask me when I look at you
Just what is it that I see
There is just one thing-
I see the love within you
Shining back at me

The contrast inside you perfect
The blending of the very best
Of all the things I love
That make you different
And better than the rest

Sitting on my desk, a vase,
With red roses full in bloom
And burlap wraps the glass
With parchment string to tie it
The fragrance fills the room

And while you lie in bed
Waiting for me to come too
I had to stop a minute and breathe
The fragrance and touch the cloth
And write these words for you

Burlap and roses
Tender and tough
This is how I see you
The perfect contrast of the two
Is what makes you - you
