Bully Poets

There are poetry bullies.
Have you met one, yet?
I know it sounds off,
such a foreign concept.
People who love words
and fitting them just so,
polishing a poem
to watch it glow,
that they could turn
their magical pen
and wield them to slash
seems a grave sin.
For gifted with feeling
and a sharp mind
to turn and hurt others
is more than unkind.
For their targets are poets!
--the sensitive sorts
with lovely expression
and vulnerable hearts.
Be careful out there.
Be keenly aware,
but please be brave,
and continue to share
your lovely selves,
your ideas, all your bests,
and please don’t be bullied
by poetry pests.

Lord God! This has excited me to my soul... My spirit dances like a redeemed bastard with your lines... Keep on writing dear friend.

Years ago, jealousy was the cause of a heart feeling grounded. (My heart) In the Poetry World, I never knew that this could happen. It took time, and moments of silence for this to finally end. (After the nasty messages) I ignored them. How can a woman much older than me, act in such a way? I didn't know, but I never gave up or gave in. I am stronger now, and much wiser because of this behavior. Thank you for sharing this. Your thoughts hold so much truth. ~ Brandy

Excellent poem, P.S. What I like best is that you maintain the high road and present a positive message, instead of sinking to the “bully poets” level and slamming them. Your warning is clear, but your words are ‘gracious, seasoned with salt’ throughout the entire poem. What a thoughtful, kind person you are. Cheers!

Mark, thank you for these kind words. I have toyed with taking this one down because I don't want to give the impression that this site is anything less than a welcoming community with much encouragement and because I wouldn't want anyone to think I was talking about them... If I do take it down, it will be for those 2 reasons. Thank you again for your kind words.

Hi P.S, Bullies are almost a sin, They try to do you in, But ignore their brunt, And their ugly grunt! Hope this poem rings loud and clear to all, but I must admit that I have only experienced kindness and friendliness from my fellow poets. Love and hugs, Jennifer.

This one is way awesome PS, like I told JAN I want one of them, I am a fighter and if they hurt my friends I will fight for them. My heart isn't a sensitive as others so I say, bring it on poet bully's!
