Bullet

leg out here and foot positioned
how many have stood, thus here, a mission

The steel pointed thus, ahead, afflicted
To make a mark, or mark your prediction

To kill or be killed, your mark then set
The bullet to kill, or be killed,
affliction now stilled, or to be met

When gunpowder and lead are poured, are melded
Are they to fly thence, or take my life, now fell-ed

When life presses, wraps, enshrouds
Are you my saviour, or my end, compounded

Will I let fly, to kill, to cry
Or will I press home, to end, to die

The cartridge so safe, now so warmly nestled
Is it for them, or for me, to be restled

When the spark goes thus, the trigger clicks
Is it for them, or for me it wills, sic's

Retribution flames, brief flames, shoots flames
To them or to me it came, in fire and shame

The lead reams now, crush cart'lage crush bone
It smashes through regret, through loss, through lone

Once more it flashes, once more it goes
Not thence to target, but to me, alone
