Broken Bridge
I lie here still amid the falling snow,
And watch the many people as they pass;
Some choose to travel seeming rather slow,
While others dare to journey fairly fast
My body stretches out to help them cross,
But of my worthy task they pay no heed;
All words of kindness seem now sadly lost,
And friendly signals I do not receive
Appearing strong, my walls stand here so firm,
Unfeeling to their ever walking feet;
For careless trav’lers cannot ever learn,
Of how my body crumbles underneath
Though doomed to be ignored by all,
I know that one day I will fall,
And they will see vital my role
In broken parts no longer whole.
