Brighter Year

Wish away the disappointment
Will away the tears
Hope for better days
Forget about your fears

Sit and wait so helplessly
Feel the crack upon your heart
Scream your pain into a pillow
Hate hate hate this part

Wait for the ring of the phone
The silence drones on and on
You know he's going to call
You know it won't be long

Your eyes are red and puffy
And finally a noise you hear
You click on and say hello
You knew this moment was near

You let him say he's sorry
Like many times before
You tell him good bye
You could handle him no more

The cheating and lies are over
Moving on should be easy from here
Now you dry your puffy eyes
And look on to a brighter year

Yes, Jen, this is unfortunately the way it works. We hope and wait for those we love to offer hope, but sometimes "sorry" doesn't cut it. That's when our best option is to "look on to a brighter year" in our quest for true love. Very touching poem -- heartfelt and nicely structured. Love, Carolyn
