Borderless Mobs

We have evolved over the years As a people with a way of life We have learnt of a new way To express our anger at every passing day. They say you only die once, But today you have an option To die and live multiple times From bullets of insults And thriving emoji of assaults. So easy it is today To cross meadows and mountains To fly across cities without wings And enter homes unwanted Just to insult someone’s father. We have all been smeared in the face With strange words from strange books Written and authored by nameless crooks Aiming through wireless chords And vulgar letters on dark keyboards. They are the borderless mobs From different colours and cultures In varying groups and genders Lurking lividly on the screen Waiting anxiously to launch their missiles. Speak the language they understand You may be spared to live another day Share and like in their delusion You will earn a follow through the foray And your enemies definitely become theirs. The borderless mobs Lord over us from their homes Remotely launching towards us While being lauded from their fortified domes. We have become estranged as a people Like scavengers looking for a prey To pummel with disparaging phrases Less bothered if a man was sent to the life beyond. Eyesores when I’s are un-dotted Mockery accompanies an uncrossed “t” And Survival comes with its wit Where canes and cudgels can’t do the job Words are enough to make you sob. © Ayinla Muyideen March,2023
