Bordercrossing

Trees cast shadows far,
in dazzling sunlight time is passing
my footsteps strewing
tracks on virgin snow
Along the river Neisse,
once and still borderline,
I see some houses close on German site
and few ducks flee as if horrified by me.
Then on the right side behind an avenue with some old trees
I see the little Polish town of Porajów in brightest light
And on the bridge across the Neisse river
I hold my steps for short
and suddenly I notice that I am here in noman's-land
I capture this historic moment with my camera.
My thoughts dissolve in hope,
bare branches bend towards the river.
The sun slowly gets tired,
long shadows join to single cast on snow.
A last photograph in silent sunny afternoon.
The border soon disappears in vast distance

enjoyed reading today. Seems so unreal to think of the horrors of the past.

I am so happy to have been able to read your poetry today Gert. I haven't been able to read much poetry for a few days now. Love, Carol
