Bones In the Earth

Bound to this Planet and Bound to this Flesh
Bones in the earth with every Step
Steps Long Taken and Steps yet to Come
Bones in the Earth One by One
And what lies Beneath also scatters the Surface
which brings to Mind the Question of Purpose
To Live and Die need Reasons why
And so I look beyond the Sky
Beyond the Earth and all I see
a Greater Reason there must be
Then, in the Air, across the Wind
I feel this message that They send...
Spirits... ever Waiting, Watching
Calling to those who've Long Forgotten
The One
Whose Steps left Deepest Impression
Whose Bones lie not in this Earth, but in Heaven
So Ashes to Ashes and Dust to Dust
Bound by Flesh in God we Trust
to lift the Spirit from the Bones
and Guide us to the Great Unknown
While now we Walk this place called Home
ever trying to Atone
for the Fact that we are
Bound to this Planet and Bound to this Flesh
Bones in the Earth with every Step

-Mortality is Fatal... Eternity doesn't have to be

WOW< for me this is one of your VERY best, Chris. A shame that only I and one other person have responded to this one. It's really good. I often think of this and am so amazed that people cannot believe there is life after death.

You are so sweet Andrea :) Thanks for visiting me...your praise is highly valued! I wrote this after constantly seeing animal bones scattered in the woods where I walk my dogs. C.H.

Aha, this was a good one to choose, last on your best poems list because I never saw it yet. Let me read it now.
