Blurred Eyes
Once,
my mind was open to opinion
the rhetoric displayed
in words that a preacher laid
ready, willing to reveal
the want and desire of the heart's appeal.
Then,
my thoughts were more focused
on the constancy of purpose
the plight of the evolving world
the blunt of nature and humanity as it unfurls
and the wrath of misplaced swirls.
Now,
I am but a silent pawn
rising to the call of a sun's new dawn
easing back and simply observing
all that nature releases in hurricanes and churniongs
while forests, homes, and communities are burning.
Today,
everything has changed
losing all the efforts and truths we've gained
and earth becomes strained with terrain rearranged
and suddenly, we realize
we see the future with blurred eyes.
