Blood and Laughter
Jo, Ryan asked, with curious eyes,
Where do you get these words that rise
Are you a poet, or is someone near
writing these verses you make appear
I smiled and said, They come from me,
from deep within, where thoughts run free.
Not always my story, not always my pain,
but lives I’ve observed, their joy, their strain.
I write not madness, nor a plea
just life observed, interpreted by me.
This weekend showed what truth can be:
that family’s love is the strongest key.
Though flaws may scar, though tempers rise,
blood is the bond that never dies.
I watched the little ones laugh and play,
no grudges held, no debts to pay.
They dance in circles, free of blame,
while we as adults forget the same.
So let us learn from children’s cheer,
to drop the weight we’ve carried here.
Forgive the wounds, release the past,
for love is the only thing that lasts.
Family matters through storm, through strife,
it is the heartbeat that shapes our life.
So cherish the moments, let grudges go,
don’t wait for loss to make you know.
Say what you feel while they’re still near,
hold them close while they are here.
Because life is short too fast, too cold,
and I love you” left unsaid is the heaviest hold.
Blood runs deeper than pride or pain
and once it’s gone, it won’t come back again
