Blindsided

who are you
if not my friend
holding my hand
as we wait for news
unbearable news

where will you be
if not with me
good and bad
as we grocery shop or
choose a coffin

what will you say
if not the truth
life spins out of control
and we're unprepared
we couldn't have known

when can be alone
if this goes on
and wait for words
heads on pillows
can we find our way?

how can I love you
any more?
