Notes About The Poem

Blackbird in a Teacup

the baby blackbird sits bewildered in a teacup trimmed with gold, soft roses gathered around its small, shaken body. a silver spoon lies in the leaves, as if some trembling kindness wandered through and let a frightened scrap of sky drop into porcelain~ a moment so slight, the world almost forgot how fragile mercy can be.

This delicate miniature has the stillness of a painted keepsake. Its spare free-verse lines and exquisite domestic imagery—gold-trimmed porcelain, roses, and the silver spoon—make the blackbird’s vulnerability feel especially poignant, while “a frightened scrap of sky” is a beautiful, memorable touch.
