Black Voices : Child's Oracle

BLACK VOICES : CHILD'S ORACLE

Creak of door, rattle of window,
Rustle of leaves, crack of twig -
The blackness makes them roar.
Noises common from the shadow
Seem louder than normal, seem big.
No longer paltry, trifling; they are more.

That door is gate to spook castle - alone.
The window is opening now to bats.
Leaves are moved by prowling feet.
Twig snaps like cracked neck bone.
Better hide from the witch’s cats.
Closer! Quick, get under the sheet.

. . . . ... . . . . . . . . .
