BLACK IN THE DAY

WE AS A PEOPLE HAVE ENDURED SO MANY THINGS FROM SLAVERY TO JIM CROW.

WE AS A PEOPLE MUST EMBRACE OUR HISTORY OR WE CANNOT GROW.

TIME HAS TAUGHT US THAT WE CAN OVERCOME WE CAN CONQUER AND WE CAN SURVIVE.

WHAT DO YOU SEE WHEN YOU LOOK AT ME A BLACK WOMAN WHO IS ANGRY AND BITTER.

OR A WOMAN ON THIS RISE WHO IS NO QUITTER.

MY ANCESTORS HAD TO FIGHT TO SURVIVE IN A WORLD WHERE IT WAS COLD AND HEARTLESS.

MY PEOPLE WERE BEATEN,RAPED, STOLEN AND KILLED.

MANY WERE TAKEN AWAY FROM THEIR FAMILIES.

HARRIET WALK THROUGH DARKNESS TO GET TO THE LIGHT OF FREEDOM.

SHE NEVER FORGOT HER PEOPLE FOR SHE CAME BACK TO RESCUE THEM.

SOJOURNER FOUGHT FOR SLAVERY TO BE ABOLISHED SHE DIDN'T GIVE UP AND SHE DIDN'T QUIT.

ROSA REFUSED TO GIVE UP HER SEAT FOR A REASON SHE WAS LETTING US KNOW THAT WE NEEDED TO STAND ON OUR OWN TWO FEET.

MARTIN MARCHED ON THE UGLY STREETS OF THE SOUTH SO THAT WE COULD BE TREATED FAIR AND EQUAL.

MALCOLM CALLED FOR EQUALITY FOR BLACKS IF ANY MEANS NECESSARY.

I LOOK BACK AND SAY THAT I AM PROUD OF MY HERITAGE, MY CULTURE AND THE JOURNEY THAT MY PEOPLE WALKED ON.

TO EMBRACE MY HERITAGE AND TO STAND ON IT.
