Notes About The Poem

Author's Notes:  Another dark write here for the 2014 Halloween celebration.  May it chill the readers' bones and fan the flames of fear most exquisitely!!  (Gary Bateman - October 8, 2014) (Rhyme poetic format)

Black Cat Green Eyes Most Evil

Black Cat hath the coldest green eyes of most hideous evil
Which chilleth my blood, causeth me the greatest upheaval;
Darkness doth pervade this creature’s most gruesome gaze
Giveth me unbridled terror, leaveth my soul in an utter haze;
Lucifer himself giveth this black demon animal its dark life
Only to bringeth me a terrifying malediction of most evil strife;
Black Cat with its visage and its promise of eternal damnation
Seeketh for me its vilest of intention and its darkest tarnation;
I prayeth then Lord God, saveth all my eternal spirit and soul
And delivereth them on All Hallows’ Eve most sound and whole!

Black cats are so mystical, magical, and beautiful, as well as terrifying.... The wording is so interesting in this poem, along with a smooth rhythm and wonderful rhyme! A terrific write for the Halloween season, Gary!

Kelly, Thanks once again and for finding this other little gem that I wrote. Black Cats are all those things you mention above. They make for some very interesting dark theme writes -- especially around Halloween. I will drop by soon to check your latest writes. Cheers and Spill Ink!! Gary

My mother had such a black cat, I hated it because every time I came near it it tried to scratch me. Great dark write... A super 7 for the dark images it evoked...

Robert, Thanks for the visit and your timely comments. I've had that same bad luck sometimes with cats. If they don't know you, then they usually try to scratch you. I enjoy your poetry too very much. More future writes on the way from me. Best Wishes, Gary

I am a cat lover/owner so I read your poem strictly metaphorical. :) Green is said to be the colour of jealousy so......... Very well written this and you master archaic English perfectly as well as rhyming.

Hello Gry, Thanks for dropping by again, for your comments on this Black Cat piece. No worries about cats. My work is strictly, as you've noted, metaphorical. If it was about a dog, it would be called a "Hell Hound." (HA HA) I'm currently experimenting with variations in my writing. I will check out you latest poems too. Cheers!! Gary

Andrea, No worries. Good News -- this one is a Poetic Black Cat with Green Eyes. And so your mortal being and soul are quite safe. Thanks for the read too. I always appreciate your visits. Best Wishes, Gary

Hi Gary, Black cats have long been a symbol of evil and your poem is a timely write for Halloween. It almost seems like this cat is the devil incarnate. Best wishes, Carolyn

Hello Carolyn, I like the theme of Black cats too very much. The black demon cat in this write could be the Devil's surrogate or could indeed be the Devil himself. Thanks for your comment here, and I will most certainly also take a look at your poems here later today. My Best Wishes, Gary

Maurice, Thanks!! Glad you liked this one. I guess you're right. The dark-side stuff seems to suit me, but my wife wants me to write other themes too. I showed her your love poems. She's a definite fan of your works, as I most definitely am. Best Wishes, Gary

I especially like the way you have used Biblical English in this frightening tale as if to help combat the forces of Lucifer...VERY well done my friend! - Tim

Tim, Thanks so much for your observation and wonderful comments here!! Yes, the Biblical English did give this write some additional heft. And thanks for taking the time to look me up. I will most certainly check out your works too. (I'm over here in Germany and its quite early in the morning here as I reply.) My Best Wishes, Gary

A jet black cat with really green eyes would be a scary creature..The devil comes to us with blue eyes and blue jeans though..A really clever dragon is Satan who is camouflaged to look like a really good alternative to a good clean life..Sara

You write with such authority on the subject that I have to warn you my friend, Gary, to take good care of yourself, for you might be misunderstood! Ha-ha! From now on I will keep a good distance from every black cat with green eyes! Absolutely Shakespearian! Seven a MUST!

Demetrios, As always my good friend . . . thank you so much for your kind comments and always interesting perspective. I hope that Shakespeare does not hate me. You should be aware too of Cherl Dunn's dark works too. She and I conspire together. I must ponder another Mephistophelian delight here in the near future. Cheers and Halloween Wishes, Gary

Liam "Me Irish Mate": Thanks!! Just think, I could've written a tale about an old drunken evil Leprechaun with green eyes. But as you know, my Leprechaun (and old drinking buddy) resides her at home in my "John Jameson" bottle. All the Best my dear friend!! Cheers, Gary
