Birthday Celebration
BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION
For my birthday celebration,
My husband Peter and I,
Wanted to give the pub a miss,
Instead a posh restaurant try.
I dolled up for the occasion,
In a shimmering gown of white.
I felt like a million dollars,
As we left home that night.
The waiter came to seat us,
Introduced himself as James,
Then handed us a menu,
Which had many fancy names.
My menu displayed no prices,
This should have rung a bell,
I knew it would be costly
How much I could not tell.
After we'd placed our orders,
And waited for James to serve,
My husband smiled and said,
? Fine dining's what you deserve .'
The entree was set before us,
After waiting about an hour.
It was a teaspoon of caviar,
On a sliver of bread quite sour.
We waited a further hour,
Until served the second course,
My stomach had been rumbling,
I was hungry as a horse.
I'd ordered King George Whiting,
But was in for a big surprise.
Though the serving dish was large,
The fish was sardine in size.
When time came to pay the bill,
My husband's face looked stricken.
The price was five times my age,
And I am no spring chicken.
Fine dining left us famished.
We headed to a different scene,
I gorged on fries and burgers,
Then ate chocolates like a queen.
