Birth of a Poem

I sit at my computer, anxious to create Words and phrases spinning, looking for the gate Seek freedom from the maelstrom that tosses them about Searching for the vehicle that will let them out At first they stand in little groups, credentials much the same Comparing similarities, from like origins they came I take each one, examine it, and place them in a row Moving them and changing the places where they go I struggle with the structure, Is it what I want to say Does it capture the emotion that I want to convey Did I paint a picture, did my overture succeed Will it speak to other people when my words they read I sit back and review again the now completed piece Awash in my accomplishment, and relish the release I have revealed a piece of me, and placed it in your hand The reader is my master, your acceptance my command
