Bird of Peace

A bird came to me one night
"Be still" he said, "And have no fright"
My body trembled as he came near
And then he began to whisper in my ear
He spoke of love and certain things
Then all at once he began to sing
He sang a soft and long lullaby
It was so beautiful that I began to cry
The bird, he wiped my tears away
And said, "Please my child do not dismay
You must learn to lift your fears"
Then all at once he disappeared
A bird came to me in my sleep
Upon my bed he did creep
I wish I knew from where he came
The bird that tried to ease my pain
Because I would like to thank the bird
For all the gentle words from him I heard
But somewhere deep within my soul
I feel he's near and that he knows
