Bird Flew

Conmen squawk, ‘Fear our Bird Flu, And that we know What’s best for you.’ So bird flew. For bird knew That what men do Is nothing new. Open minds are few, Thinking’s voodoo; And what’s true Goes up the flue. So bird flew. Yes, bird flew. Because bird knew It’s not the first time, History rhymes, Since man can’t learn And always gets burned. All this bird knew; So, bird flew. Bird flu. They’ll say it’s a thing, Say they’re not joking, And people will do What they’re told to do. They’ll peck at false seeds Planted in their mind, Twenty four seven, It happens each time. This phony Bird Flu, Bird knew; So, bird flew.

David, you certainly caged a pun! It's a shame this virus has required us to kill off so many flocks of hens and ducks. There was a large duck farm on Long Island that was euthanized. That farm will likely go out of business. The larger problem is mass farming of animals and the potential for disease. The scientists are saying the virus doesn't seem to be spreading to humans easily...so we're lucky about that for now. Tough on egg prices for a while. We're lucky eggs can't be hoarded easily. Nonetheless, I'm recommending everyone keep a refrigerated trailer of eggs just in case.

Thanks Duke for your humor in the first sentence! And I appreciate your ponderings with these themes. There's also too much money being created that ends up chasing the same amount/or fewer goods(lets kill some fowl because of an unseen virus-that's what causes egg inflation they claim, lol!) The masters of money and media are a sneaky bunch.

Lol. Take two aspirin and call me in the morning doesn't work well for birds. I enjoy your humor.

I love how this poem builds a sense of tension and layers it with a biting commentary on human behavior and manipulation.

Thanks Pangie for all your thoughts on this stuff. I'm not sure if I like the flew/flu angle more than the warning on more insanity. It looks like your back, so it's settled.

Thanks so much Sam. Nothing like flew, flu, and a bit of flue comingled in a poem. Happy New Year.
