Beyond Reach
It slithered, wounded, off into a breach
within the granite face, obscured by brush.
Near vanquished in the fight,
aroused by cries of nesting thrush,
it caught a glimpse, as she skipped blithely by,
from its remaining reptilian eye.
Scarce mastering the rush,
tantalizingly close, but for now, beyond reach…
