Between the Lines

Sometimes we take for granted
The poems that we read
The writers pour their hearts out
Til their souls begin to bleed

They write from pure emotion
That's kept bottled up inside
They have to set their feelings free
And they will not be denied

They can often paint a picture
Through the stories, that they tell
The pen becomes their paintbrush
Painting their words with great detail

But there's more to every painting
Than what the eye can see
The same is true with the written word
That we call poetry

Sometimes there's hidden meanings
That the reader often finds
If they'll only look more closely
And read between the lines
